Born and raised in the heart of Africa, Clementine—the visionary behind HELENA Braiding & Barber Lounge—began her journey with nothing more than a passion and her hands. As a young girl, she would sit beneath the shade of mango trees, intricately braiding her dolls’ hair, unaware that these innocent moments were shaping her future. Braiding was not just a pastime—it was the earliest expression of her art.
During her teenage years, Clementine deepened her skills, mastering traditional African braiding techniques passed down through generations. Every twist, knot, and parting became a reflection of her heritage. Braiding evolved into something more than a craft—it became a sacred ritual, a language of identity, and a form of storytelling. Hair became her canvas; culture, her color palette.
In her early twenties, Clementine moved to Paris to pursue greater opportunities. There, she transformed her passion into a profession, gaining recognition for her signature fusion styles that combined African tradition with European elegance. Her innovative techniques and creative vision captivated a wide clientele—from African and Latina women to Caucasian professionals—all drawn to her unique styling approach. Among her most celebrated creations are the Matoba Knot, symbolizing unity and cultural grounding, and the Malaxe, a soft, hybrid flow braid that embodies freedom and versatility.
